Retaining walls are the unsung hero of structural landscaping and construction projects. They play an essential role in the delivery of a structurally sound outdoor environment, particularly in areas with a lot of slope.
Retaining walls can be used to:
In essence, retaining walls are used to resist the lateral pressure of soil when a construction project requires a change in ground elevation. At Morestone Group, we specialise in retaining walls and we understand the importance of ensuring your retaining wall will last a lifetime while also being aesthetically pleasing. This requires great workmanship, the use of quality materials, and the right construction technique suited to your application – all aspects that we excel in.
There are essentially four types of retaining walls, as follows:
Morestone Group’s Founder and Managing Director Terry Morton specialises in structural landscaping, covering both hard landscaping (sod, brick walls, retaining walls, footings, brick edging) and soft landscaping (grass, plants and flora, dirt and irrigation).
While Morestone Group is a young business, Morton has nearly two decades of leadership experience in the construction industry. Prior to founding Morestone Group, Morton honed his structural landscaping and leadership skills in the field over 15 years as a Project Manager at a commercial construction company, who specialised in the delivery of engineered structural solutions for industrial, commercial and agricultural clients.
At Morestone Group, retaining walls are the very reason our business exists. Designing and building superior retaining walls that last is at the very heart of what we do.
“Building retaining walls is my passion – it’s why I started the business,”
Morton explains. “When it comes to retaining walls, I’m driven by not only great workmanship but also by doing retaining walls right so they can stand the test of time.”
While some structural landscaping and construction professionals avoid jobs that require retaining walls, Morestone Group embrace them.
“It’s a specialised thing; and there’s specific engineering requirements involved,” Morton explains about the niche market he’s carved out in quality retaining wall construction. “It’s not just building something – you’ve got to build it to a design. There’s compliance obligations and regulations that need to be adhered to. While it may appear to just be a wall, there’s a lot involved in retaining walls and we put a lot of consideration into how we construct them.”
